2004
March 24th
- The XNA toolset is first announced at the 2004 Game Developers Conference in San Jose, California.
2006
March 14th
- The first "Community Technology Preview" of XNA Build released.
August 30th
- XNA Game Studio Express is released.
2007
Febuary 11th
- Mono.XNA development begins.
December 13th
- XNA Game Studio 2.0 is released.
2008
October 30th
- XNA Game Studio 3.0 is released.
2009
March
- Bill Reiss's SilverSprite is released.
December 2nd
- XNA Touch (with bits of SilverSprite and Mono.XNA) is released by [José Antonio Leal de Farias](https://github.com/jalf).
2010
- Several iPhone games appeared on the Apple App Store using XNA Touch.
September 16th
- XNA Game Studio 4.0 is released.
2011
- XNA Touch is renamed MonoGame and is moved to GitHub.
- Support is added for Android, Mac, Linux, and OpenGL on Windows.
- Dominique Louis takes over as the full time project lead.
October 6th
- XNA Game Studio 4.0 Refresh is released.
October 28th
- MonoGame 2.0 is released.
2012
- Support is added for DirectX 11, Windows 8, and Windows Phone 8.
- The first MonoGame website goes up.
October 30th
- The MonoGame team was invited to speak at Microsoft’s //Build 2012 event.
2013
- Microsoft XNA development ends.
- Microsoft Studios publishes several titles using MonoGame on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.
January 6th
- OUYA console support is added to MonoGame.
January 21st
- MonoGame 3.0 is released.
2014
- First MonoGame titles released on PlayStation 4 including TowerFall Ascension, Transistor, and Mercenary Kings.
- Tom Spilman and Steve Williams take stewardship of the project.
April 7th
- MonoGame 3.2 is released.
May 5th
- First release of MonoGame for PlayStation 4 is made available to all Sony developers.
2015
April 15th
- MonoGame 3.4 is released.
2016
March 16th
- MonoGame 3.5.1 is released.
July 21st
- First release of MonoGame for PlayStation Vita is made available to all Sony developers.
2017
March 16th
- MonoGame 3.6 is released.
July 12th
- First release of MonoGame for Nintendo Switch is made available to all Nintendo developers.
2018
September 23rd
- MonoGame 3.7 is released.
2020
August 10th
- MonoGame 3.8 is released.
2022
July 25th
- First release of MonoGame for PlayStation 5 is made available to all Sony developers.
- MonoGame 3.8.1 is released.
2023
September 29th
- The MonoGame Foundation is formed.
